previw pane file details

Is there any way to edit the items that show up in the preview pane? I want to see the bit rate of my MP3s over anything else.

Right-click on the Details pane and select Size-->Large.

Or just drag its upper border upward. But you'll still see the but rate for only one item at a time. If you want to see them all use Details view. Right-click any column heading and choose More... Select Bit Rate (and any other columns you want to see). You can size and position columns like always.
